Presenting Curious City: Lake Michigan’s Legendary ‘Shark Attack’

In 1955, a young boy named George Lawson was swimming in Lake Michigan near Chicago when he was reportedly attacked by a shark. Yeah, a shark in the Great Lakes. Lawson was rescued by John Adler. He hauled the boy out of the water into a boat, and saw he was missing most of his right leg.

“I just couldn’t believe it, but I had to believe what I saw,” said Adler.

But could a shark really make it to the Great Lakes and survive? Or is this legendary attack just a bunch of bull shark?
