Cinderella: At the opera — Monday

During this week of "Intermezzo," we bring you The Brothers Grimm 1812 version of "Cinderella," complete with a few twists.

Hear today's full episode by clicking "Listen" above or from your preferred podcast app.

There are many musical versions of Cinderella, but which one will we encounter today?

Today we'll start with opera. Gioachino Rossini's "Cinderella" (La Cenerentola) premiered just 5 years after the Grimm's story was published. The storyline includes a lot of scenes that are great for the opera stage, like a big thunderstorm and trouble with a horse drawn carriage.

Listen to the overture. Does it make you feel like there's a lot of drama ahead?

This week's Mystery Melody

It's time to test your ears. Each week we have a mystery melody that we have to figure out with likely not enough information. It relates to our topic. Listen to the podcast episode for today's tune.

If you know the mystery melody, text your name and the title and we’ll give you a shout out on Friday. The number to text is (833) 490-4718.

Christy L'Esperance is Classical IPR's morning host and producer.
