Classical Sprouts: BONUS! Shelest Duo
In light of the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, we're celebrating more Ukrainian music this week on Classical Sprouts, this time with Shelest Duo.
Anna and Dmitri Shelest, the pianists of Shelest Duo, first met at just 12 years old, when they both lived in Ukraine.
Later, both moved to the United States, where they crossed paths again, eventually got married and formed this musical duo.
In 2018, they released an entire album of Ukrainian music called "Ukrainian Rhapsody," and when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, they re-released the album to stand in solidarity with their fellow Ukrainians.
"We can play a part in making sure that Ukrainian identity is reaffirmed every day," Anna said.
