Nurses reach tentative contract agreement with Munson

Munson Healthcare

Nurses at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City have their first labor contract. They reached a tentative agreement with the hospital last weekend.

Nurse James Walker says they're pleased.

"We feel it’s a strong agreement that meets our goals of why we organize: to ensure a strong voice," Walker says.

The full details of the contract aren't public, but Walker says it includes higher wages and less mandatory overtime.

Negotiations between the Michigan Nurses Association and Munson started in December 2017.

Last summer the Nurses Association accused the hospital of breaking the law during contract negotiations. A representative from the Nurses Association says those issues will be resolved during the approval process.

The tentative agreement goes to a vote before nurses this weekend.
