Governor Gretchen Whitmer met with employees, local business leaders and community members at TentCraft shipping facility in Traverse City on Monday.
Whitmer is in the midst of her statewide meet-and-greet tour.
Gov. Whitmer focused her remarks on the importance of improving job skills, saying it’s the main concern she’s heard during her stops in northern Michigan.
She also reiterated points from her “State of the State” address, including fixing roads and reforming K-12 education.
Ben LaCross, a cherry grower, says the agriculture industry needs the Governor’s help.
"Commodity prices are low. Farms' debt to equity ratios have never been worse. Farms are underwater right now," LaCross says. "We need an ally in our state government."
LaCross says he hopes Whitmer will prioritize farmers’ needs and fulfill her campaign promises.
The Governor will make stops at Alpena, Saginaw, and Flint this week.
