Traverse City nonprofit celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. with song

Motown Legends Gospel Choir

A musical tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. has become an annual tradition in Traverse City. The event is free and starts tonight at 5:30. This year it features the Northwestern Michigan College children's choir and the Motown Legends Gospel Choir, founded in 2008 by the lead singer of The Contours (Do you love me).

Traverse City Jazz Musician Jeff Haas is the founder of the nonprofit Building Bridges with Music, which hosts the event. He talks with us about music as a historical connection and communication tool for people who are downtrodden and oppressed.

The event is free but tickets are required. They're available at the State Theatre box office. Show starts at 5:30.
