Cherry Capital Airport expanded its summer flights to and from New England today with a new service to Boston, Massachusetts.

This is the first flight offered by the airline JetBlue at TVC. It takes off on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays through October 25th.

Airport CEO Kevin Klein said the flight signals east coasters' growing interest in Traverse City.

“Our tie to Boston has really grown over the last five years," Klein said. "I think that focus has come from the arts, like with Interlochen, the academy and the summer camps. It's just been a growing tie.”

Logan international Airport also opens up more ways for northern Michigan residents to travel abroad.

“Boston is an international gateway for Europe," Klein said. "JetBlue has opened up so many new European routes in the last year and that adds those destinations for us.“

Last summer, TVC debuted a summer service to New Haven, Connecticut, with Avelo Airlines. Klein says with a new airport terminal on the way, some summer-only flights have the opportunity to expand into year-long services.

JetBlue is offering some one-way tickets for as low as $69 this summer.
