'Inspired by my community': Indigenous voices amplified in new newsletter

Miigwech Ink is an independent news source and a space for Indigenous Peoples of Mishigamiing (Michigan).

Sierra Clark is a journalist who covers Indigenous issues here in northern Michigan. Clark previously spent time writing with the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

She spoke to IPR about her new project, and how she hopes it will provide both uplifting stories and coverage of serious issues.

"This newsletter is inspired by my community," Clark said. "The Anishinaabe are amazing, talented and innovative, but their contributions are not always fully recognized. So I wanted to create a space for indigenous people to share uplifting stories, but also stay informed about issues in Michigan, such as laws and policies that are affecting us."

The first edition of the newsletter is now live and can be found at Miigwech Inc.'s website. Stream the full conversation at the top of the page.
