Despite a devastating loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the Detroit Lions are looking good this year.

In fact, it could be one of the best seasons in franchise history.

But it hasn’t always been that way.

Author Bill Morris’ new book, “The Lions Finally Roar,” is a deep dive into the franchise’s rich history.

He said the deep dive into the role of the Ford family makes the book "not just about football," but a story about the city of Detroit and its people.

He talked about it with IPR’s Michael Livingston ahead of his appearance in Traverse City at the National Writers Series on Wednesday.

Michael Livingston covers the area around the Straits of Mackinac - including Cheboygan, Charlevoix, Emmet and Otsego counties as a Report for America corps member.
