Michigan Democrats are getting behind Vice President Kamala Harris to replace President Biden as the Democratic nominee.
The Vice President announced her campaign Sunday afternoon with an endorsement from Biden.
Betsy Coffia represents Michigan’s 103rd State House District which includes Grand Traverse, Leelanau and parts of Benzie Counties.
She commended Harris for her work to increase access to abortion and her previous life as a prosecuting attorney.
“I think she’s a tough prosecutor and I think she’s a very fitting candidate to run against someone who’s frankly now a convicted felon," she said.
Coffia’s district is the only one held by a Democrat in northern lower Michigan. She flipped the 103rd seat in 2022 from red to blue and is currently seeking reelection.
A recent Detroit Free Press poll showed former President Donald Trump with a notable seven-percentage-point lead over Biden. Those numbers were before the President's announcement to drop out Sunday.
