EDITOR'S NOTE: This story will be updated with comments from candidates.

A predictable outcome in Michigan’s 1st U.S. House district.

The Republican incumbent Jack Bergman will return to Washington, overtaking Democrat Bob Lorinser, a physician from Marquette.

Latest numbers from the Associated Press show Bergman leading with more than 60 percent to Lorinser’s nearly 37 percent. About 87 percent of votes had been counted as of 1:30 a.m.

Bergman is a retired Marine lieutenant general and airline pilot. He put the economy, healthcare and veterans support at the forefront of his campaign.

He’s also one of four congressional Republicans who signed onto a lawsuit that attempted, and ultimately failed, to undermine the 2020 election results.
