Let Freedom Ring--these words are as true today as they were in 1776! On May 19th, Encore Symphonic Winds, conducted by Dr. Timothy Topolewski, will perform some of the most stirring and emblematic music of this important time in the history of the United States of America!
This concert features Carmen Dragon's America the Beautiful, as well as American Overture for Band by Jenkins. The concert will include the woodwind quintet, The Prevailing Winds, performing an American Spiritual Medley arranged by Jerry Nowak. The quintet is a group from Encore Symphonic Winds whose members are Peg Kroll-Flute, Margie Tropf-Oboe, Kiane Kolak-Horn, Steve Gilbreath-Clarinet, and Ted Kroll-Bassoon. Concluding the concert will be the Field Artillery March of John Philip Sousa.

Featuring the Internationally ranked “Five Star” Barbershop Quartet, the Great Lakes Men’s Chorus, the First Presbyterian Church Choir, Sandy Bode, Dave McMahon, Claire Sheehan and much more!
The performance will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Cadillac on Sunday, May 19th at 4:00 PM. Admission is Free. Donations for “Hunger Relief for our Community” will be taken at the door.

Our Peepers Program is an adult-accompanied program for early learners ages 3-5 years old, of all experience levels with the natural world. Join us for 60-minute nature programs that include stories, crafts, music, and discovery activities. The program cost is $5/child per session.
Adult butterflies look very different compared to their larva stage. Join us on Tuesday, May 21st from 10:00 - 11:00am to learn about the life cycle of butterflies and their important role in our ecosystem!

On Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 PM, the LWVGTA will present a program on composting at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere, Traverse City. Composting is nature's way of recycling and is one of the most powerful actions we can take to reduce trash in landfills and to build healthy soil. Come and hear experts in the field talk about the benefits of composting and the opportunities to compost in our area. The Glen Lake Garden Club will host a program about native landscape design on Tuesday, May 21. Wes Landon, ASLA, and principal of Native Edge in Grand Rapids, will present “Designing with Nature for People + Planet” at 1:00 pm at the Glen Arbor Township Hall, 6394 Western Avenue (M-22). Free parking is located behind the township hall. The program is free and open to the public.
Native Edge is a landscape architectural design firm specializing in ecologically inspired designs for a wide range of projects from private homes to downtown plazas. Recognized for his expertise, Landon’s projects aim to create resilient natural environments which serve both people and nature. His talk will illustrate how such planning can organize and bring a vision to life for the home, business or community outdoor spaces.
The Glen Lake Garden Club has served the area for over 45 years with numerous beautification projects that include annual summer plantings throughout Glen Arbor, the outdoor spaces at the Glen Lake Community Library in Empire, MDOT highway clean up, maintaining the prairie garden at the Old Settler's Park in Maple City, invasive plant awareness, and decorating the Carl Olson Bridge for the holidays.
