Come out to help plant native plugs at GTRLC’s Mitchell Creek Meadows Nature Preserve! Volunteers will learn about and take an active part in the Conservancy’s ongoing habitat restoration project by assisting with planting plugs grown in our very own greenhouse.
The Basics:
GTRLC will supply tools and water. We will teach you everything you need to know about how to properly handle and plant plugs in the ground. No prior experience is necessary! This is a moderately light, family-friendly activity, though volunteers should be prepared for digging and kneeling. Bathrooms and drinking water are both available on site.

How has Earth Day impacted you? Join docents at one of the Conservancy’s newest Natural Areas, the Ingraham Preserve at Cedar River, as we walk the trail through woods and fields, using the landscape as our impetus to discuss the many ways in which Earth Day and the environmental movement have manifested conservation values in our lives. Sharing observations, ideas, perceptions, and even concerns, we’ll consider the past, the present, and our future as we listen to each others’ perspectives. Hopefully, we’ll gain a little inspiration, too!
Please be aware that this trail has a 30% uphill incline at its onset.

Grammy ® nominated Cellist, Multi-Instrumentalist, Composer, Producer Hans Christian will be performing at the Old Art Building!
Using the cello in combination with live looping and various ethnic string instruments, Hans Christian explores a universal musical language that transcends boundaries, cultures, and generations.
During a live looping concert, Hans will record musical phrases that create harmonic and ambient textures in ever changing colors and densities. Audiences will be offered a listening experience that ranges from meditative to passionate, at times with a soaring cello that is supported by a fully orchestrated layer of strings while at other times dissolving into ambient meditative sound paintings. The artist also incorporates esoteric string instruments, such as the Indian sarangi, to blend with the cello and thereby giving the concert an expanded ethnic flavor. Additionally, audiences may find sound bowls, cymbals, and flutes appear during a concert.
The Letter League is the story of finding human connection during the pandemic. When Heather Spooner, owner of Ampersand Lettering Lab, launched the idea in April 2020, the response was immediate, and enthusiastic. Since that time, Spooner has connected more than 550 letter writers from around the world with one another. The Letter League also caught the attention of Los Angeles filmmaker Michelle Boyaner of Greenie Films, and a documentary about “stories of connection in a disconnected time” was created.
Join us for the documentary’s Traverse City premiere at the Dennos Museum Center!
