Do you want to learn how to help your hand tools last a lifetime? Join us for a laid-back gathering to file, sand, and maintain our collection of tools. We use these tools each year to build and maintain our many miles of trails and remove harmful invasive species. Come join us for a workday to learn how to care for hand tools and help lengthen the life of the Conservancy’s tool cache!

The Basics:

Our team will teach you everything you need to know about tool use, maintenance, and safety. No prior experience is necessary! This event will involve all aspects of tool maintenance, including using hand files to sharpen tool heads, removing rust from metal parts, and applying linseed oil to wooden handles to prevent splintering. This will be a moderately light activity taking place in our workshop, with bathrooms and drinking water available on site.

The Conservancy follows state, federal and CDC guidelines for COVID-19 and may modify or cancel this event at any time. Do not participate in any activity if you were recently exposed (within 10 days) to someone with COVID-19 or have recently (within 10 days) been diagnosed with COVID-19.

What we recommend bringing:

Dress for the weather! Always check the forecast in advance
Sturdy, closed-toe shoes that can handle some mud
Bring a reusable water bottle and some snacks
Sunscreen and bug spray for your safety and comfort
Your favorite pair of work gloves
Location: Please meet us at our office space off of three mile road. Park in any designated space by the Conservation Center and head over to the workshop.
