IPR hosts Interlochen students and faculty, guest performers and talent from across northern Michigan for performances in our very own Studio A.

In Studio A with clarinetist Adam Kuhn

Adam Kuhn is a senior at Interlochen Arts Academy, where he studies clarinet with Bryan Conger.

He is one of the winners of this year's student concerto competition and will perform with the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra in the coming months.

Adam visited IPR's Studio A with pianist Susan Snyder. He performed a movement from his winning concerto, the Clarinet Concerto no. 1 in F minor by Carl Maria von Weber. He also played the final two movements from the Sonata for Clarinet and Piano by Francis Poulenc.

He told IPR about why each of those pieces requires a different reed. He also explained why he's had to make some changes to his reeds since coming to northern Michigan from his native Helotes, Texas (outside of San Antonio).

Listen to his performance and interview below.
