American composer Steven Stucky has passed away at the age of 66. He was awarded the 2005 Pulitzer Prize in Music for his Second Concerto for Orchestra. His commissions included works for many of the major American orchestras and ensembles.
He was resident composer of the Los Angeles Philharmonic (1998-2009), and Composer of the Year with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 2011-2012. He was Composer-in-Residence at the Aspen Music Festival and School and taught at Cornell University, Eastman School of Music, Temple University and University of California Berkeley, joining the faculty of the Juilliard School in 2014.
Stucky was an expert on the music of Witold Lutoslawski, receiving the Lutoslawski Society's medal and an ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for his critical biography, Lutoslawski and His Music.
