Trombonist Kimmy Nelson is a senior at Interlochen Arts Academy. She was a recent finalist in Interlochen Arts Academy's Concerto Competition.

She performed the "Danse sacrée" from Two Dances for Trombone and Piano by Jean-Michel Defaye in Studio A at Interlochen Public Radio with collaborative pianist Susan Snyder.

In addition to playing the trombone, she also enjoys singing and writing songs. She and her sister used to put on concerts for their family.

Kimmy also shared that there's a lot in common between singing and playing trombone:

"... vibrato, tone, phrasing, everything. Also, it's just an outlet for emotion. I think that both of them have that trait."

Kimmy Nelson is a student of Tom Riccobono at Interlochen Arts Academy. Stefan Wiebe engineered this edition of Studio A.

Keith Brown was the host of Matinee Classics and the host and producer of GAMEPLAY until 2024.
