We traveled across the street for this performance featuring eight student trumpeters from Interlochen Arts Academy.
They performed Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "March slav" in room 1008 of Interlochen's Music Center.
The ensemble qualified for this year's National Trumpet Competition, which takes place at the University of Delaware this March 31 through April 2.
For ensemble member Topher Meeks, getting to go to the National Trumpet Competition has been a goal of his for several years.
The competition, he said, is "really trumpet-intensive." Participants not only compete but they also get to hear many other soloists and ensembles perform.
When asked how playing in an all-trumpet ensemble compares to other kinds of musical groups, Topher had a simple answer: "If it's trumpet, it's just better - always."
