Viridian Strings: Jason Ma, John Gilbert, Satoka Abo, Joe Skerik, Renee Skerik and Kyle Stachnik

Viridian Strings visited IPR's Studio A and performed music by Brahms ahead of their performance this Sunday at Farm Club in Traverse City, an IPR Live event. The concert is at 2 p.m.

Joe Skerik and Kyle Stachnik met as young players in the Traverse Symphony Civic Strings. They attended high school at Interlochen Arts Academy and later formed Viridian Strings, an ensemble that has grown over time.

Skerik and Stachnik discussed the group's beginnings and their upcoming performance. They then performed the scherzo movement from the String Sextet No. 2, Op. 36 by Johannes Brahms. You can click above the photo to here the entire segment.

Today's musicians include violins: John Gilbert and Satoka Abo, violas: Joe Skerik and Renee Skerik, and cellos: Kyle Stachnik and Jason Ma.

In Studio A with Viridian Strings was engineered by Stefan Wiebe. Anastasia Scholze provided production assistance.

Nancy Deneen is the host of Music at Midday and Music by Request.
