Since he was 18, Jonathan Baude has been hoping to get one of his crosswords published in the newspaper perhaps most famous for having a crossword. His first — and hopefully not last, he says — appears on Dec. 2 in The New York Times. (Photo: Ed Ronco / IPR News)
IPR's puzzle crafter, Jonathan Baude, lives in Traverse City and has had his work appear in The New York Times.

The first monthly puzzle appears in the July 11 edition of the IPR News newsletter. Sign up soon to make sure you receive it!

Here's a sample puzzle for you, with the answer at the bottom of this post.

In this puzzle, you’ll see a list of words and be asked to provide one word that can go before each to create a new common word or phrase. For example, for the words MAN, CONE, FLAKE, GLOBE… the answer is SNOW to make SNOWMAN, SNOWCONE, SNOWFLAKE, SNOW GLOBE.
