State police investigating after Traverse City police shoot, kill domestic assault suspect

Michigan State Police are investigating after Traverse City police officers shot and killed a 50-year-old domestic assault suspect.

State police said on social media that Traverse City police officers arrived on scene around 4:45 p.m. Friday and found a 50-year-old man armed with a knife. He did not comply with orders to drop the knife and charged at police.

The state police statement goes on to say that Traverse City officers tried to use a taser but it was ineffective. They then fatally shot the suspect.

First-aid measures were ineffective, and the man died at the scene.

The 58-year-old woman who was found with injuries at the scene was taken to Traverse City Munson Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately known.

No police officers were injured.

The officers who responded to the scene have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Michigan State Police investigate. That’s common procedure for officer-involved shootings.

Michigan State Police said further updates on the case would come via their X social media account.
