When Jeff Holstine came home from Europe in 1986, he was shocked to find parents' family restaurant had turned into a topless bar.
Crossroads in Rapid City continues to provide adult entertainment almost 40 years later.
“It was always my dad’s aspiration to have a campground across the street,” said Holstine. So when he sold the property across the street to Tyler Morris in 2023, he did so with the expectation that Morris would pursue establishing an RV park.
At a public hearing for Clearwater Township, Morris presented his case for a 73-acre campground. About 30 local residents spoke out, some in favor of the campground, others with concerns about increased traffic, decreased property values, fire hazards, even a bear living at the site of the RV park that may need to be relocated.
Resident Chelsea Coy lives across the street from the bar. She echoed the other residents' in opposition, but if the RV park is approved, her house would be directly between the two businesses.
“One of my major concerns is what kind of families will come and camp at an RV park that is 100 yards away from a topless bar,” she said at the meeting.
Holstine wouldn't comment on the issue.
The planning commission in Clearwater Township has its next meeting on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Clearwater Township Hall .
