As traffic volumes increase, we go looking for speeders in Mancelona

The village of Mancelona at a crossroads, quite literally.

M-88 starts there. So does M-66. And then there’s U-S 131, which is a four-lane divided highway in most of Michigan. It funnels down to two lanes going 45 miles per hour in Mancelona.

In the last eight years, the number of cars traveling through the village has gone up by 47 percent. And this has created some unique challenges for Mancelona police.

Reporter Austin Rowlader met up with a Mancelona police detective to go looking for speeders. Listen to the story through the audio player with this post.
