Andrew Dost spent several years as a member of the Grammy Award-winning band fun as well as a couple of academic years on the singer-songwriter faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts.
Dost's latest project is a collaboration with fellow northern Michigan musicians A.S. Lutes and Jack Senff.
The band is called Metal Bubble Trio, and they're currently on tour in Michigan.
The band's name itself comes from the gameplay of "Snood," where the player is thwarted by the occasional metal bubble.
As far as what they sound like, it's a long list.
Dost mentioned Roy Orbison, Fatboy Slim, the Cardigans, João Gilberto and Wes Montgomery as just a few of their influence and sources.
"It's everything from modern indie rock to bossa nova and some Walter Wanderley," Dost said. "There's also an element of later Beach Boys where they got more avant garde and less surf-y."

Metal Bubble Trio takes the stage at City Opera House on Sunday, Nov. 3 for "Hello Darkness, My Old Friend," a musical celebration of the end of Daylight Saving Time that's now in its third year.
Although they served chili at the show the first two years, Dost cautions that they won't be doing that this year.
"Have your chili beforehand, please," he implored.
