What's next for Kids Commute: October 2024

Following Kate Botello's departure from Classical IPR, we're taking a different approach with Kids Commute for awhile.

Last week, Kate Botello departed Classical IPR.

We've received a number of listener questions about the future of Kids Commute.

First and foremost, we are very grateful to Kate Botello and producer Emily Duncan Wilson for their phenomenal work on Kids Commute together since 2022. We are also grateful to the show's previous producers and production assistants Tony Bero, Anastasia Scholze and Delia Zaleski.

Classical IPR is pausing Kids Commute in its current form and trying a new approach in the interim.

We felt that the only fitting replacement for Kate Botello as the host of Kids Commute would be, well, kids.

Starting Monday, Oct. 21, at 7:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m., listeners will hear a young guest host introduce a piece of music that they have chosen.

We are inviting Kids Commuters aged preschool through high school to participate in this revamped version of Kids Commute. Learn more and get started here.

Teen speaking into a microphone
Classical IPR invites kids to host Kids Commute by sharing their favorite pieces of classical music with listeners of all ages.

Although the name and format of the programming may change in the coming months, we want our listeners to know that Classical IPR is committed to having classical music programming specifically for children and families.

We are currently running a national search for a new host who will also host and produce classical music programming for children and families.

We appreciate your patience during this time of transition and we welcome your thoughts and feedback about our programming and mission. You can email me at amanda.sewell@interlochen.org with your comments.

Dr. Amanda Sewell is IPR's music director.
