Coverage
IPR and WCMU public radio will cover the event on Wednesday night. Listen for the stories Thursday during Morning Edition.
On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance will speak in Traverse City. The Ohio senator is set to speak at the Northwestern Michigan County Fair at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 5:00 p.m.
It’s Vance’s sixth visit to the state since joining the campaign trail.
The Republican nominee for vice president is set to speak on the American auto industry. He says Vice President Kamala Harris’s electric vehicle policies would cost Michigan at minimum around 40,000 jobs.
In a statement, the Harris campaign said that “Trump made it clear he will ship our auto jobs overseas, just like he incentivized companies to do as president.”
Trump won Grand Traverse County by just over three points in 2020. Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer won the county by over six points in 2022.
