Up North Pride has a busy weekend ahead, including a visibility rally and march on Saturday, and "Big Gay Brunch" on Sunday.

The group's president, Anna Dituri, spoke with IPR's Ed Ronco about why having Pride events is important, and the climate for LGBTQ people in northern Michigan.

She said the Saturday visibility rally and march is a crucial part of the week.

"Visibility is exceptionally important in northern Michigan, where folks often feel marginalized," Dituri said. "It is really important to show up for our neighbors and show support and solidarity for anyone in northern Michigan that is feeling excluded."
