One of the crucial jobs at any public radio station is the local “Morning Edition” host.
It’s the first voice many of you hear in the morning, and the first person in our newsroom to scope out what might be happening on any given day.
Dan Wanschura has filled that role — magnificently — for five years. Now, he’s passing the torch.
But he’s not leaving IPR.
In addition to hosting “Morning Edition,” Dan is also executive producer and host of “Points North,” IPR’s biweekly podcast about the land, water and inhabitants of the Great Lakes.
The podcast takes us all over the region. In addition to the countless stories told from right here in northern Michigan, “Points North” has taken us recently to Ohio, Wisconsin and, most recently, to Minnesota.
Organizing all of that is a big job, and Dan is shifting his schedule to focus entirely on making this excellent, award-winning podcast, along with editor Morgan Springer.
Starting Monday, June 12, you’ll hear Tyler Thompson in the mornings on IPR.

Tyler is a reporter in our newsroom. He joined IPR after jobs at WOSU in Columbus, Ohio, and KDLG in Dillingham, Alaska, and he hosted live radio in both places.
In his time here, he’s filled in as host on both “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered,” and he’s proven himself to be a friendly voice on the air. Along with hosting, Tyler will also continue his work as a reporter for IPR News.
Tyler — like Dan before him, and Max Copeland on “All Things Considered” in the afternoons — will help maintain the sound you’ve come to love from IPR and our commitment to news programming that is both useful and enjoyable.

And thanks, as always, for listening. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at ed.ronco@interlochen.org.
