Listen now: Emily Dickinson

Hear dozens of different musical settings of Emily Dickinson's poetry in this on-demand playlist.

Emily Dickinson wrote almost 1800 poems during her lifetime.

Most of them were not published until after her death in 1886, and the first complete collection of her poetry wasn't published until the 1950s.

Her iconic poems, as well as her unusual use of rhyme, punctuation and syntax, have inspired many different musical settings.

Aaron Copland, Lori Laitman, Libby Larsen and Gwyneth Walker have all composed complete cycles of Dickinson's poems for solo voice.

There are also choral settings by Samuel Barber, Craig Hella Johnson, James Mulholland and Eric Whitacre.

Hear just a small selection of these Dickinson settings and many others on demand below.
