IPR Story School: Pipes and Drums

Jennilyn Oster standing in front of her Traverse City Police car and wearing the uniform for Grand Traverse Pipes and Drums.

Bagpipes have been around for hundreds of years, and there are many types of bagpipes around the world. In the United States we are most familiar with the Great Highland Pipes, and see them at parades, funerals, and festivals. But a talk with Officer Jennilyn Oster reveals their therapeutic potential.

Listen to the story through the audio player above. It comes from IPR's Story School, a 10-week program led by independent producer Juliet Hinley. Eight storytelling enthusiasts from around Northern Michigan learned how to pitch stories, record interviews, work with audio editing equipment and produce an edited, narrated final story. The finished pieces aired in a special presentation on Interlochen Public Radio. Listen to the whole program here.
