IPR Story School: Newsbeat to a Breakbeat

Town Crier Jordan Anderson stands at the corner of Front and Madison streets in Traverse City. One of his most popular songs is about the traffic backups that occurred when a 4-way stop was installed at this intersection.

The local news isn't always great. The TC Town Crier hopes singing songs that poke fun at these issues can help make the bad news a little better.

Listen to the story through the audio player above. It comes from IPR's Story School, a 10-week program led by independent producer Juliet Hinley. Eight storytelling enthusiasts from around Northern Michigan learned how to pitch stories, record interviews, work with audio editing equipment and produce an edited, narrated final story.

The finished pieces aired in a special presentation on Interlochen Public Radio. Listen to the whole program here.
