In Studio A with Los Altos

Kacie Brown/IPR
Los Altos perform in IPR's Studio A. L to R: Kim Teachout, Renee Skerik, Michael Ouzounian and Ann Schoelles

Violists Michael Ouzounian, Ann Schoelles, Renee Skerik and Kim Teachout gave a preview of their upcoming Little Bay Live performance in Bay View.

A quartet of string instruments usually includes two violins, a viola and a cello.

But that's not the case for the ensemble Los Altos - their ensemble includes four violas.

Michael Ouzounian, Ann Schoelles, Renee Skerik and Kim Teachout met while they were all playing in the viola section of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra.

During COVID-19 shutdowns, they started playing together as a quartet.

They play music written especially for this pretty unusual combination of instruments, and they also play arrangements.
