Interlochen musical theatre program director Justin Lee Miller on Classical IPR

Justin Lee Miller - Opera Wire

The inaugural Director of Interlochen's Musical Theatre program talks with IPR about his career, views on Musical Theatre, and "Anything Goes!"

Justin Lee Miller is Interlochen's first-ever director of musical theatre programs.

Next week, he'll launch his first-ever production here - the classic Cole Porter musical "Anything Goes."

Justin's career spans both the Broadway and classical worlds, and he brings that expertise to bear as he trains a new generation of musical theatre performers.

The sound and feel of musical theatre has evolved over the last century; actors must perform across a wide range of styles, from classical singing to pop and hip-hop.

Are show tunes classical music? "Anything's classical," says Justin, "if it's old enough."

Listen for the full interview and all the music Justin shared - including the first time he's ever heard himself in the Broadway recording of "My Fair Lady!"

"Anything Goes" opens on August 5 in Interlochen's Corson Auditorium. For tickets and more information, click here.

Kate Botello was a host and producer at Classical IPR until 2024.
