Traverse City Music Boosters has been supporting Traverse City Area Public Schools music education programs and students for more than 50 years.
The organization awards music scholarships to individual music students, classroom mini-grants to music teachers and ensemble
Wendee Wolf-Schlarf is the K-12 Music Coordinator for Traverse City Area Public Schools.
She says that Music Boosters supports individual students as they study music privately, and it also helps classroom teachers with supplies such as solo music and Orff instruments and mallets.
Wolf-Schlarf visited IPR's Studio A along with two past recipients of the Music Boosters Scholarship program.
Kira Bihlman is a senior at Traverse City West Senior High School.
She says the scholarship helped her pursue private music studies.
Kira, who studies violin privately with Steven Leonard, performed an excerpt of the violin I part of the second movement of Sergei Rachmaninoff's String Quartet no. 1
Lily LaFaive is a sophomore at Traverse City West Senior High School.
She says the scholarship helped her keep up with her private music lessons.
Lily, who studies voice privately with Jayne Sleder, performed "Nel cor più non mi sento" by Giovanni Paisiello. Her collaborative pianist was David Husser.
The next Traverse City Music Boosters Concert takes place Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. at Traverse City Central High School.
