Detroit Symphony Orchestra LIVE: May 20, 2022

Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet
Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet

The Detroit Symphony is live from Orchestra Hall in a program of music by Carlos Simon, Maurice Ravel and Richard Strauss.

Jean-Yves Thibaudet joins Jader Bignamini to perform Ravel's Piano Concerto in G, inspired by the composer's tour of North America, where he first became smitten with the sounds of jazz.

DSO Principals Eric Nowlin and Wei Yu take the spotlight in Richard Strauss's Don Quixote, a tone poem portraying the adventures of the "ingenious" man from La Mancha.

The program also includes Carlos Simon's "Fate Now Conquers."

Listen to this live broadcast Friday at 10:40 a.m.

The live Detroit Symphony Orchestra broadcasts are a service of WRCJ and Detroit Public TV, in collaboration with WKAR, WCMU, WMUK and Interlochen Public Radio.

The broadcasts are hosted on site by WRCJ's Dave Wagner and Peter Whorf. Nancy Deneen is the local host.
