Northern Michigan schools are starting to get COVID tests from a pilot that launched in November.
The state program allows each student to pick up a kit from school that contains two COVID tests.
Kits were available starting Wednesday for students and staff at Crawford AuSable Public Schools. Superintendent Justin Gluesing says it’s meant to improve testing access.
“It puts that power in the family’s hands at home, which is good because one of the things we’re dealing with is students coming to school not feeling well,” he says.
Gluesing says the kits arrived just as several school-associated cases were found in his district this week.
The following northern Michigan schools have requested tests.
Northern Michigan school districts in possession of the tests: Alanson Public Schools, Benzie County Central Schools, Cadillac Area Public Schools, Crawford AuSable School District, Elk Rapids Schools, Northport Public School, Cadillac Heritage Public School, Concord Academy Petoskey, Inland Lakes Schools, Kalkaska Public Schools, Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy, Suttons Bay Public Schools, Concord Academy Boyne, Mesick Consolidated Schools, Buckley Community School, Gaylord Community Schools.
Northern Michigan school districts that have not received most, or any, of the tests yet: Traverse City Area Public Schools, Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools, Mason Public Schools, West Shore Educational Service District, The Leelanau School, Manistee Area Public Schools, Sault Ste. Marie Area Public Schools, Frankfort-Elberta Area Schools, Mackinac Island Public School, Old Mission Peninsula School, Lake Superior Academy, Pellston Public Schools, Charlevoix Public Schools, Harbor Springs Public Schools, Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy, Munising Public Schools, Sault Area Public Schools, Engadine Consolidated Schools, Mio AuSable School, Mason Consolidated Schools, Evart Public Schools, Mancelona Public Schools, East Jordan Public Schools, Charlevoix-Emmet ISD, Northwest Community Schools.
