An afternoon of quartets with Classical IPR at the Traverse Area District Library

Join Classical IPR at the Traverse Area District Library on Sunday, March 13 for an afternoon of quartets.

We'll show the 2012 film "Quartet," starring Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon, Billy Connolly and Pauline Collins.

Dustin Hoffman directed this story about four retired professional opera singers who became famous with their recording of Verdi's "Rigoletto."

All four now live in a retirement community that is desperately in need of funds, so they decide to put their differences aside and perform in a benefit concert together.

The film also stars several real-life classical musicians, including soprano Gwyneth Jones, violinist and conductor John Georgiadis and baritone John Rawnsley.

A screening of "Quartet" will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 13 in the McGuire Room of the Traverse Area District Library's Woodmere Branch.

Come early, though, because the barbershop quartet Northern Exposure will be performing in the lobby before the movie.

This event is free and open to the public.

Masks will be required for all attendees, and room capacity will be limited.
