There will be another investigation into whether state House Speaker Jase Bolger and state Representative Roy Schmidt broke any laws when they plotted to rig an election.
The Ingham County Circuit Court has named Judge Rosemary Aquilina to lead a grand jury investigation. Aquilina was selected in a blind draw to serve as a one-judge grand jury.
The court found probable cause laws were broken, even though an earlier investigation by the Kent County prosecutor found otherwise. Democrats say that investigation was cut off before the State Police had a chance to finish its fact-finding.
Schmidt and Bolger plotted Schmidt's switch to the Republican Party and tried to put a fake Democrat on the ballot to avoid a reelection battle.
Bolger and Schmidt both say they will cooperate and expect to be cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.
Earlier, Bolger called the effort by Democrats to empanel a grand jury a "political goose chase," and a waste of time.
