Lumiere is comprised of Pauline Scanlon and Eilis Kennedy. They each had successful careers on their own but admired each other's work. Now, they perform together as Lumiere. And what's most striking about Lumiere is that their singing style is so simple and straightforward. These days, many singers copy the "American Idol" and "X Factor" style with a thick vibrato and incredible runs up and down the scale.
Not Lumiere.
The simple approach they take means that there isn't anything that gets in the way of the meaning of the song. Eilis Kennedy says that neither she nor Pauline Scanlon really discussed this approach.
Kennedy: "We don't spend a lot of time figuring out stylistic ways (of singing). You know, it just sort of falls together. We like to work together and we like to tell the story. We like to have a lovely melody."
Lumiere performs Saturday night, December 17 at St. Francis High School's Kohler Auditorium in Traverse City.
