By Linda Stephan

All 23 rustic state forest campgrounds that were slated to close this summer are to remain open. The head of the state Department of Natural Resources has now formally rescinded an order to close them.

The plan was to save money on campgrounds that are not used enough to pay for themselves.

Some of the campgrounds will be taken over by local governments.

Also with this order, DNR Director Rodney Stokes called for a review of the entire state forest campground system for possible local and interdepartmental partnerships.
