Workers Called Back At Cadillac Boat Factory

By Tom Carr

Amid all the bad economic news, a Cadillac boat manufacturer has begun to call back some workers. Four Winns was purchased earlier this year by a venture capital group that wants to dominate the recreational boat business, Rec Boat Holdings. It has increased its workforce in Cadillac to more than 440 people.

At one point this year there were only about 220 workers on the job there, when it was only Four Winns. Now Rec Boat Holdings, the company includes Four Winns, Glastron and Wellcraft boats.

Bringing the Glastron production to Cadillac from Minnesota has been the main driver behind the increase in jobs.

Company President Roch Lambert expects the current level of employment to remain steady for about six months. He'll know if he can hire more people after boat shows begin in January. Lambert hopes two new Four Winns models will spur more expansion.

The manufacturer unveiled one of those, a 30-foot cruiser, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, last week.
