Classical IPR in Concert

Join Classical IPR this Friday at 8 p.m. for a program of chamber music recently performed by faculty members at Interlochen Arts Camp.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center recently visited Interlochen Center for the Arts during their Russian Mastery tour.

This week, Classical IPR in Concert presents that recent performance, featuring music of Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Scriabin and Taneyev.

This week Classical IPR in Concert features the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and Chorus.

Music Director Libor Ondras conducts the program from April 2019. It includes works by Shostakovich, Mozart and John Williams.

Classical IPR in Concert features the Traverse Symphony Orchestra this week.

The program from March 2019 includes Moussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2 with guest soloist Ralph Votopek. Kevin Rhodes conducts.

David Holland and Crispin Campbell wanted to bring all six of Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concertos to northern Michigan for a long time. They recently accomplished this goal with the region's first-ever Brandenburg Festival.

This week on Classical IPR in Concert - we'll go to Studio A with Interlochen Arts Academy composers, poets and singers. Inspired by a collaboration between their instructors, students teamed up to create works that gave full voice to all three disciplines.

Performances in Studio A were engineered by Brock Morman, Michael Culler engineered the performances in the Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall.

Classical IPR in Concert: IAA Faculty Chamber Music

This week, Classical IPR in Concert features members of the faculty of Interlochen Arts Academy.

Pianist Ya-Ju Chuang, violinist Ara Sarkissian, violist Renee Skerik and flutist Nancy Stagnitta perform a concert of works by Valerie Coleman and Bohuslav Martinů, along with pieces by Beethoven and Mozart.

Classical IPR in Concert presents the Interlochen Arts Academy Singer-Songwriters in Studio A.  We caught up with a group of five students as they were about to embark on a tour of the Midwest with instructor Kyle Novy. Fellow instructor Courtney Kaiser-Sandler took a different student group to South by Southwest.

Classical IPR in Concert presents a recent performance given by the Brentano String Quartet at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

The quartet performed Ludwig van Beethoven's String Quartet in C minor (op. 18, no. 4) and the String Quartet no. 12 in D-flat major by Dmitri Shostakovich. 

Nancy Conforti and Michael Culler engineered the recordings made at Interlochen.

Classical IPR in Concert: TSO Beethoven and Bunch

This week Interlochen Public Radio presents an encore broadcast of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra’s February 2019 concert.

The program includes Beethoven's Egmont Overture and his Symphony No. 3. Michael Coonrod is the piano soloist in the world premiere performance of the Concerto for Piano, Left Hand by Kenji Bunch.

Interlochen Center for the Arts

This Friday, Classical IPR presents a recent performance of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake from Interlochen Arts Academy.

The performance from December 2018 featured students in the Academy Dance and Orchestra programs.

The orchestra was conducted by Leslie Dunner. Joseph Morrissey is the director of dance.

This week Classical IPR in Concert features pianist Jonathan Biss and tenor Mark Padmore performing late works of Franz Schubert. The concert took place in the Dendrinos Chapel and Recital Hall at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

An encore presentation of Christmas Time is Here with Canadian Brass will air on Classical IPR.  

This performance from Corson Auditorium was originally broadcast live in December 2016.

The concert features Interlochen alumnus Caleb Hudson, first trumpet in Canadian Brass.

7 a.m. Calidore String Quartet

8 a.m. Brentano String Quartet

Sounds of the Season, Interlochen's highly-anticipated holiday show, is performed by Interlochen Arts Academy students and faculty. It is a family-friendly concert centered around this festive time of year.

The Interlochen Arts Academy Band and Choir present holiday songs, with favorites for all ages. This annual celebration has become a tradition for many local residents, with classical holiday music and a sing-along. The show also features Interlochen Public Radio's own Kate Botello!

The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and Chorus opened the 2018-19 season with a performance featuring works by Gwyneth Walker, Joseph Suk and Sergei Prokofiev.

This concert includes the world premiere of Gwyneth Walker's Great Lakes Overture. Libor Ondras conducts.

Traverse Symphony Orchestra

This Friday, Classical IPR presents a recent performance given by the Traverse Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with the Traverse City Dance Project.

We’ll revisit this September’s Hill Auditorium performance featuring the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin with violin soloist Lisa Batiashvili.

The concert has the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, a suite from Nico Muhly’s opera Marnie, and the Symphonic Dances of Sergei Rachmaninoff.
