Show Tunes with Kate Botello - Episode 39 - Season 3 Finale!

Welcome to Episode 39 - the Season Three Finale! - of Show Tunes with Kate Botello.  Coming up: it’s our Audience Appreciation Special! We asked, you answered - and tonight we’ve got a pile of YOUR favorite show tunes. At Intermission, we’ll talk with Rene Ruiz, founder of Toxic Audio, about combining the worlds of a capella singing and theatre.

Click through for this week's playlist and a beautiful video of Jake Gyllenhaal from the new production of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE.

Here's this week's playlist:

INTERMISSION: A cappella music is all the rage these days. Pentatonix is selling a zillion records, and IN TRANSIT is playing to full houses.  We'll talk to Rene Ruiz, founder of Toxic Audio, innovators of creating theatre with the human voice.

  • MAN OF LA MANCHA (1965) - The Impossible Dream (BJ)
  • 110 IN THE SHADE (1963) - Simple Little Things (Terri)
  • NATASHA, PIERRE AND THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 (2016) - No One Else (Hannah)
  • MAME (1966) - Finale (Joe)

Listener Jim's choice of SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE reminded me of a video making the rounds: Jake Gyllenhaal performs a pared-down backstage version of, "Finishing the Hat," and he's absolutely wonderful. He'll co-star with Annaleigh Ashford in a limited engagement at the newly refurbished Hudson Theatre opening February 23, 2017.
