Hear the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra's recent concert "España: From the Old World to the New World."

The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and several special guests recently performed a musical tribute to Spain at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor.

According to music director Libor Ondras, the extra-musical elements such as dramatic plots, dancing, monologues, and visual stage effects help convey "elements of Spanish folk music like guitar strumming, dance rhythms, delivering the sonic image that audience might have already constructed in their minds, playing on the audience’s collective (and romantic) imagination of Spain, conveying otherness through realistic exoticism."

Listen to each part of the concert on demand below.

Act 1
Juan Arriaga: Los esclavos felices overture Manuel de Falla: El amor brujo

Act 2
Pablo de Sarasate, Navarra Astor Piazzolla, Tangazo: Variations on Buenos Aires

Soloist: Tyler Roberts, mezzo-soprano
Choreographer: Leah O'Donnell
Dancers: Shannon White, Zachary Morris

This concert was recorded at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor. Thanks to the GLCFA and GLCO for sharing the audio with IPR.
