Jazz pianist Bob James stopped by Studio A to play a little music and talk about his upcoming CD Release and Interview event at the Milliken Auditorium on June 27, at 7:30pm.
Bob James Live at the Milliken Auditorium was recorded in concert with the Bob James Quartet on May 3, 2014. Interestingly, James himself didn't know the performance was going to be recorded.
"I was either going to make this into a CD, or call my lawyer," says James, chuckling.
Apparently, Eugene Jenneman, Executive Director of the Dennos Museum played a little trick on James.
"There was no plan, at least that I was aware of, that this concert was going to be recorded," says James.
"It was one of those times fortunately, where I got to the dressing room afterwards and we were kind of celebrating, and I was saying how fun it was, and how great the audience was, and how great I felt about the whole evening. I think I was the first one to say, 'Gee, I wish this had been recorded,'" he says.
"To which Mr. Jenneman got a little bit sheepish look on his face. He said, 'Well, I don't know if I should admit this or not, but we actually did record this.'"
Bob James was very happy to hear that news- it's now available for purchase at at the DennosMuseum Store.
