This week: A diesel spill on Lake Michigan, a big ruling for crash survivors and James Earl Jones and the power of mentorship.

Up North Lowdown - Interlochen Public Radio, NPR Network

James Earl Jones grew up in Manistee County. And it was a mentor there, a teacher at Brethren High School, who helped set him on the course to becoming one of the nation's most accomplished and best known actors.

We hear about a new tribute planed for Jones, his mentor Donald Crouch, and all who have served as mentors for others.

We'll also get caught up on the big news of the week, from a diesel spill on Lake Michigan, to a state Supreme Court ruling with big consequences for people — well, some people — injured in auto wrecks.

And it seemed like some high-ranking politicians just couldn't stay away from Traverse City this week. Thanks for listening!
