This week on Classical Sprouts, we're digging in and hopping along to another Venezuelan folk song: "El Sapo."
A traditional song performed by the vocal and instrumental quartet, Serenata Guayanesa, the lyrics tell the story of two toads, or los sapos.
Serenata Guanyanesa released the album "Música Folklórica y Popular de Venezuela" in 1972, and are still considered one of the most popular groups to perform this style of music.
Kate grew up listening to Venezuelan folk songs with her father, and has both fond and annoying memories of this "ribbeting" tune. (Riveting... get it?)
La sapa, the mama toad is giving birth to HUNDREDS of toad babies, and el sapo, the toad father, isn't being any help.
So she asks him to go here ("Sapo vete de aquí")and go over there ("Sapo ponte pa'llá"), and calls after him over and over ("Sapo!")
