Voters will decide the next public art display in Traverse City.
Tonight, five local artists will pitch ideas for a public art display downtown near the Boardman River, and audience members will vote to decide the winner. The Traverse City Arts Commission is hosting the event.
“We’re really excited about the diversity in the pitches,” says Colleen Paveglio, marketing and communications director for the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority that manages the Arts Commission. She says the pitches range from murals to a photography exhibit.
“We’re just trying to grow and just foster a really robust program that really our community can be proud of,” she says.
The Arts Commission’s Art Selection Panel chose five finalists; Chase Hunt with Norte, Micah Mabey and Kristen Stewart, Em Randall, Kevin Summer and Nick Walsh.
Each of the five artists will have up to five minutes to pitch their idea with five slides.
The winning artist gets $1,000 to fund their art proposal, which will then be installed in parking Lot B, where the Farmers Market is held.
The art Pitch Night starts tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Workshop Brewing Company.
