In the 1920s, important native fish species, like lake trout and whitefish, began disappearing from the Great Lakes seemingly overnight. The crash devastated businesses and communities across the region.
Scientists soon discovered the cause: sea lamprey, an invasive, parasitic fish that had swum through shipping canals. The documentary 'Relentless' tells the story of that discovery — and the desperate search to find a solution.
'Relentless' will be screened for free at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, at the Dennos Museum Center, Milliken Auditorium in Traverse City. The screening is part of the two-night Freshwater Focus sequence, from the Traverse City International Affairs Forum.
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the film's director and subject-area experts, moderated by IPR environment reporter Ellie Katz.
