There’s been concern lately about Michigan’s slow population growth.

Most recently, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer formed the ‘"Growing Michigan Together Council" led by bipartisan co-chairs to develop strategies to bring people to the state.

But in the grand scheme of state population trends, northern Michigan is somewhat of an outlier.

IPR’s Michael Livingston sat down with Jaclyn Butler, state demographer for the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics, to understand the meaning behind all the numbers.
